Anthony Heffernan

In September 2023, Anthony joined the staff supporting the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) in developing high-quality, internationally accepted public sector accounting and sustainability standards.

Before joining the IPSASB, Anthony was the Technical Advisor to the New Zealand IPSASB Board Member from March 2016.

Anthony from 2016 - 2023 was the Director of Accounting Standards at the External Reporting Board (XRB) as a national standard-setter in New Zealand. In this role, he led the team that supported the New Zealand Accounting Standards Board (NZASB) in developing and issuing accounting standards across the public, not-for-profit, and for-profit sectors.

Before his roles as a standard-setter, Anthony had over 16 years of professional accountancy experience, providing audit, internal audit, and business advisory services across a wide range of sectors and industries. Anthony held senior leadership positions at his predecessor firms providing assurance and technical advisory services, specializing in IPSAS and IFRS adoption and application.

Anthony is a Victoria University Wellington New Zealand graduate and a Fellow (FCA) of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
